I first came across the incredible photography of
Margaret Courtney-Clarke when I bought the book
African Canvas which documents the mural art of women in West Africa. Another fantastic collection of hers is that of the Ndebele women. In both collections, the use of pattern and color is spectacular -- not to mention the fabulous cloth, blankets and beadwork that these women wear. Born and raised in Namibia, when she is not traveling the world, Courtney-Clarke lives in Italy. She helped establish the
Ndebele Foundation which is a Cultural Center for Women and Children in South Africa.
