Natural Selection : New Paintings By Matt Adrian

Our annual showing of Matt Adrian's whimsical, awesome bird paintings went up on our walls yesterday.   I feel like I need to spend as much time drinking in all of my favorites as all the sold ones go to their new homes after the Artist Reception on Saturday evening.   Took a whole heap of pictures this morning for prosperity.

Matt Adrian Show on June 1

A show of the fabulous bird paintings of Matt Adrian (aka The Mincing Mockingbird) at Henry Road has become an annual event which I look forward to every year.   Matt's paintings delight and awe me so I cannot wait to see what he has for us this year.

The show entitled "Natural Selection" will feature new work and the opening will be Saturday June 1 so save the date!   We will know nearer the time exactly when we will hang the show for those of you who want the pick of the flock.  We typically sell about half of the show before the opening as his paintings go like hotcakes!   Not surprising when he creates fabulous-ness like this Toucan that will be in the show!

In addition, we are hard at work making some limited edition pillows featuring three of Matt's paintings that will be available for the opening.  Lots of exciting things on the go!

Deerhead Class: May 22

To everyone who loves the two deerheads hanging about our counter and has expressed interest in making one, the class is finally scheduled.    It is Wednesday May 22 from 6-9 PM.

The class will include the deerhead, Henry Road fabric of your choice and everything else needed to create your own masterpiece.   Wine, cupcakes and other essential refreshments will also be included.  The class will be limited to five people so everyone will have space to work around our cutting table and I will be able to help where needed.

The cost of the class is $200 and no cancellations will be allowed as space is limited and it is so soon.  Give us a call or come by to book your space and make your fabric selections.   It is going to be a fun evening!

Mothers Day Gift Ideas

I can't believe that I blinked and May suddenly arrived.  The fifth month of the year - already!!   That also means that Mother's Day is just around the corner -- or given that it is Sunday May 12, it is literally next week.

Pretty much anything in the store would make a great gift for a Mom but I thought I would pull together a mini collection of some of my favorites.  Some of which are available online and some not -- and yes redoing our website to include more of the good stuff in our shop is on the to do list.   In the meantime, if you see something you like in a picture, give us a call and we will happily ship it to you.

Top of my list are these fabulous baskets from Ghana.   We have some in stock and a whole shipment en route.   I have had one on my kitchen counter for all the dog related stuff for years and finally decided to bring them into the store as they are perfect for storing things as well as trips to the beach and the Farmers Market.

Jonathan Adlers Pop Candles are happy shots of color.   The blue of the Watercress candle is perfection - and yes it smells light and fresh.

Because everyone needs a blast of hot pink in their lives, our cross pillow makes my list.   And who doesn't need a bold English bulldog standing guard over their money!

Dreaming, doodling and list making needs are perfectly catered to with a colorful journal, and the gift of a thousand good wishes for Mom's everywhere: a gold wishbone showcased in glass.

New Henry Road Collection

As is always the case with the doodles and drawings that end up on Henry Road fabric,  this new collection was inspired by past travels and the beauty in the gardens I walk passed with my dog every morning and evening.

Marrakech pays graphic tribute to the tiles and textures of Morocco while the delicious blooms in neighborhood gardens ended up in Bouquet.   Jetty reflects a one mile stroll into the ocean on Busselton Jetty in Western Australia.    I loved the contrast between the vertical beams of what remains of the old jetty and the horizontal planks I trod on the new jetty.

These three new designs are printed on a natural ground of hemp and organic cotton with turquoise, smoke grey and chartreuse adding to the Henry Road color palette.

The fabric and pillows are now available on our website and in our Studio City shop.

Better Homes and Garden, Feb 2013

The February issue of Better Homes & Garden has a fabulous feature on color that includes our Fleur pillow in sage.

12240 1/2 Ventura Blvd

Well we are starting to really settle into our new shop!  I am loving having everything in one place.  No more yellow stickies with lists of things that need to go from store to studio to storage to office!

Here's a selection of pictures of the new place.  If you are in the neighborhood, come of by and visit.  Any day now I will have bought that expresso machine that I keep talking about having in the store...

New Store in LA TImes

Wow -- didn't realize how long it had been since I had written a blog post.   The holidays happened and then January was a crazy time moving house and getting ready to move our store with a big clearance sale.   All of that is now in the rear view mirror and Henry Road shop and studio are now in one bigger space around the corner from the former store.

Yesterday Lisa Boone at the LA Times made my day with a fabulous feature on our move including photos by the lovely Laure Joliet!
