Keeping Busy

We are keeping busy in the shop during the welcome post holiday lull by taking pictures for a new section we will be adding to our website. The section will feature some of our favorite finds and we hope to have it up and running by the end of January. Happy New Year!

Inspiration

This is a collage of photos that I took recently for the new catalog that my friend, Michelle Caplan, and I are scrambling to get done in time for the NY Gift Fair at the end of Jan. Yup, we are late, late, late and its all my fault of course. Nothing like a bit of procrastination....

Chair in Poppy

My sister just had a wonderful English armchair covered in my crazy bright, bold Poppy fabric. It now stands proudly in the corner of her guest room in London.

The Arrival of Winter

Well winter has finally arrived in Southern California. Well as winter as it gets. Am thoroughly enjoying wearing boots and scarves for a change. Even the trees are celebrating by finally losing their leaves. Took this picture of the street behind the shop over the weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving

Leaves and Rain

It's finally looking like Fall in LA with lots of rain, and leaves everywhere. Perfect weather for curling up with a good book in front of a fire. I am currently loving a book we have in the store about the work and life of Saint Exupery, the man behind The Little Prince. The book is full of his adventures, his friendships, his creativity with words, and his wonderful, whimsical illustrations.

Scenic Change

We've changed things up in the store to make room for lots of holiday goodies and just because change is good. Thrilled with the 'renovation' and upholstery job on the old sofa I found at a market as well as the great wool pillows we've added to warm things up. And yes, I've always loved the Union Jack.

The Heat of Winter

Its crazy hot here in LA, the aircon is running, fires are raging and I have throws in the store. It's a topsy turvy world!

Building a Nest

Congratulations to our friends at Nest. Their new website -- www.buildanest.com -- went live today with lots of great things to buy for a great cause. Henry Road is one of the many artists and designers selling items on their site -- a percentage of all sales goes to the organization.

The mission of Nest is to support women artists and artisans in the developing world by helping them create sustainable entrepreneurial businesses. To do this, Nest provides micro-credit loans to be used for the purchase of the supplies and materials necessary to begin and/or maintain art or craft-based businesses.

St Jude Children's Hospital

Was privileged to have been approached by St Jude to design some pillows using particular inspirational words for their holiday catalog. I used children's drawings as the inspiration for the design. Looking for a gift that keeps on giving this holiday season, take a look at their gift shop which includes a number of great items including Hable Construction stockings. Gotta figure out how to put in a web address properly but for now this is it -- http://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/shop.do?cID=12215

Home Magazine

Home magazine's October issue has a great bathroom redo featuring the custom wallpaper I made for the store:)

Living Etc Surprise

Couldn't sleep one night recently so was chatting to my sister who lives in London at 2:30. She mentions that she just got her new copy of Living etc and starts looking at it telling me that she would really love to be paging through a magazine one day and just come across one of my pillows in a house. Ten seconds later she is squealing and hyper ventilating:) At first I thought she was pulling my leg. But nope -- one of my Gloria pillows in black and white is in this wonderful, color-filled Long Island home that features the handiwork of the very talented and exciting interior designer, Ghislaine Vinas.

Butterfly Lampshade Whimsy

Finally shipped off all the lampshade orders I got at the New York Gift Show. Was totally taken by surprise by how well they were received and totally unprepared. So what felt like a gazillion butterflies later and lots of late nights, they are all on their way to their new homes.

Halloween ... Already

Changed up the store this week. Having grown up in South Africa without Halloween, I don't totally get it and have never done any Halloween decorating before. So am thrilled with the mantel in the store. Probably more Goth chic than Halloween but love the old saws I picked up in a flea market alongside Jonathan Adler's snakes, knitware vases from Alyssa Ettinger, a cool Michelle Caplan portrait and loads of black feather roses!

Art Opening : Michelle Caplan

We will be featuring the wonderful work of mixed media artist, Michelle Caplan, in the store for the next few months. The show opening is Thursday, Oct 2, 6-9PM so if you are in the neighborhood, come by and visit!

Featured in Elle Decor

So finally decided it was way overdue time that I started updating our news. So much going on. Back in May, we opened the first Henry Road bricks 'n mortar store and are thrilled that it is featured in the October issue of Elle Decor as a 'hot shop'.
