Friday's Fabulous Woman: Margot Fonteyn

Once upon a time, I was a little girl in a pink leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers who dreamed of being a ballerina princess.  The queen in that world was the sublime Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991).  The greatest ballerina of my lifetime, she danced until the age of 58.  If Fonteyn was the Queen, her King (and mine) was Rudolf Nureyev.  This charismatic, gorgeous, talented pair danced together from 1962 to 1979 when she retired.  The photos below remind me how much I love the shapes and lines that dancers bodies create.

Kitchen Windowsill

Took some pictures of my kitchen windowsill while the kettle was boiling this morning.  Seemed like a great alternate to washing last night's dishes.  Yup, it's an old kitchen so no dishwasher and I always wash up the morning after:)

Kirsten Heckterman

I love textiles so it's unsurprising that I am a huge fan of this work. Multi-talented Kirsten Hecktermann combines modern and old fabrics with her own hand dyed fabrics and phenomenal embroidery.  In addition to her own work, she sews for stylists, is a stylist herself, and now designs an incredible line of wooden spoons and a Swahili print clothing collection.  The wonderful images on her site say it all.

Downtown Chic

Downtown Chic is a great interiors book by Robert and Cortney Novogratz that we carried in the store last year.  And yes, I kept one for me:) The Novogratz' started renovating houses ten years ago and now have their own design company called Sixx Design and a show "9 by Design" debuting on Bravo tomorrow.  Oh, and of course, they are very good looking people and while renovating houses (and doing a lot of the work themselves) in Manhattan, Connecticut and Brazil, they had seven gorgeous children.  If the show is as good as the book which was full of great tips as well as beautiful interiors, I am going to love it!
