May in the Store

I spent the weekend armed with a camera taking tons of photographs so that we can get the website updated as soon as possible.  Here are a few of the store.

British Design Classic Stamps

In the store today, between customers and photographing stuff so that I can update the web, I was playing around with some new designs which involved lots of googling.  I am obsessed with postage stamps at the moment and came across these great Royal Mail stamps on dezeen.  Turns out they were issued January 2009 but I had never seen them before and I figure maybe some of you haven't either.

Friday Dreaming

Came across this so so cool bug by the super talented Bokja Designs in the latest Elle Decor Italia . . . dreaming of being behind the wheel with the Beach Boys playing heading down a coastal road!

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Cougar Annie

Cougar Annie was a character.  A strong, creative woman, Ada Annie Rae-Arthur earned her name by shooting more than 80 cougars during her seventy years in the wilds of Clayoquot Sound on the western edge of Vancouver Island, BC --  in part to protect her livestock and also to earn a provincial government bounty per animal.  In addition, she operated a nursery garden, a store and a post office from her home. She raised eight children, outlasted four husbands and transformed this rugged corner of the world into a spectacular garden with more than 100 species of imported trees, shrubs and plants.  I love her wonderful strength, independence and eccentricity.  Vancouver Island is on my list of places I would like to visit some day and Annies Garden which has been restored and is now open to the public, is yet another reason to head north.  My thanks to Lara of Three Owls for introducing me to Cougar Annie.  Sources: Boat Basin Foundation and EcoTrust Canada Flickr.

Taking Stock

Thanks to a wonderful group of customers, our sale has been a huge success and we have made lots of room for new goodies.  First thing this morning, I headed off to the flea market to see what I could find.  I had every intention of taking some pictures of cool stuff to post but with dog leash in one hand, cart in the other and a huge blue IKEA bag over my shoulder (not to mention envelope with money and a pen to keep track of things), digging my camera out didn't happen.  I ended up doing three trips back and forth to the car before heading home, unloading, taking shots of the loot (below) and heading off to open the store.  Crazy, fun way to start a Sunday -- even the dog was exhausted by noon!
