Rover is a big, beautiful, fun, 300 page hardcover coffee table book featuring over 200 dog portraits by Andrew Grant. Love having it in the store and very happy that part of proceeds go to pet rescues!

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Tricia Guild
Long long ago before I even contemplated working with fabric, I used to visit Designers Guild on Kings Road in London and take swatches from the little drawers and I have been a huge fan ever since. Tricia Guild is a dynamic, creative and inspirational designer. Back in 1970 she founded Designers Guild which is now a global enterprise celebrating the use of bold design and color in fabric and wallpaper.
Per the cover of her latest book, Pattern: "Taking traditional motifs and giving them a modern twist; finding surprising contemporary used for forgotten techniques such as flock printing and stencilling; reinterpreting the ikats, crewelwork, quilting, and other techniques seen on travels everywhere from Italy to India; all these are vital to Tricia Guild's original designs." Pictures below from Designers Guild.

I have been playing around with pattern and inspiration. My photoshop skills are pretty basic so did these on Picasa. Think I may want white lines between the images but that's for another day. Time to get some work done.

Interiors
A comment on one of my posts from Danielle send me to a wonderful blog called live like you which sent me to the site of a talented interior designer called Marjorie Skouras. I could happily move into either of these two rooms -- they are such a celebration of living large and bold. And for the artwork alone in the first image!

Pattern
Even though I am in the store seven days a week at the moment, there is still something about Monday and the new start that it represents. So this week, Monday will be a day of hoovering and dusting, bill paying and quickbooks, and a few sundry other things. If I check off half of what's on my to do list . . . oh happy day!
Loved the patterns and colors in Morocco. Here are some beautiful wood inlay ceilings and tiled walls.

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Doris Eaton Travis
At the age of 105, Doris Eaton Travis is the last surviving Ziegfeld girl and reportedly still dances three times a week. Per Uppercase Gallery: "By the time she received her honorary doctorate at age 101, Doris had starred in silent and talking pictures, performed for presidents and princesses, bantered with Babe Ruth, offended Henry Ford, outlived six siblings, wrote a newspaper column, hosted a television show, earned a phi beta kappa degree in history (at 88), raised turkeys, and raced horses." What an inspiration!

Interiors
Am a big admirer of the interior design in Firmdale Hotels. Per their website: "Firmdale Hotels' owners, Tim and Kit Kemp believe that "hotels should be living things, not stuffy institutions". Kit Kemp has designed all of the interiors in a fresh contemporary English style. Her mixture of colour and texture, modern and antique together with an impressive art collection, has combined to create a unique look and style." Designing hotels like these would be a dream job! Most of their hotels are in London but the Crosby Street Hotel recently opened in NY.

A Walk in the Hills
Decided to have a lazy morning so am feeling guilty about not taking the dog for a walk in the hills this morning -- gotta do it tomorrow - rain or shine! Thinking about it, reminded me of some great pictures my sister took on Christmas day on our walk in the hills.

Lavender Love
Most of the proceeds from the sale of our Lavender Bundles goes to SOS Children's Villages, a charity that runs villages for orphaned and abandoned children around the world. Thank you all for buying so many of them over the holiday season! I was very happy to send them a donation yesterday as the organization scales up relief efforts in Haiti.
Digging Dirt
After being woken up on Wednesday night with a call about a water main break outside the store and rushing down to check on my baby (which was dry), spent yesterday watching workers dig a hole and then fill it:)

Heirloom LA
One of the great pleasures of being in the store all day, is all the wonderful people who come in. Just got to know Matt and Tara from HeirLoomLA Catering. They make a Lasagne Cupcake!!!!! Love the creativity and the picture below just confirms that it is swoon-worthy! They heard about Henry Road from my friend Lisa of Cake Monkey Bakery -- another story in sinful, creative deliciousness!

Ready for a Refresh
I decided it was time for the shop to have a refresh . . . so sign is up and door is closed for the next week. We will be busy packing, taping, sawing, sanding, painting, cleaning, unpacking and rearranging! Very excited about the planned changes. They are cosmetic but will refresh everything and give the shop a new look.
