Malibu Home

I knew I was going to love this job the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by sweeping views of the Malibu coastline, a fabulous art collection and a menagerie of cats and dogs.  My clients had moved into their dream home 15 years ago and hadn't done much to the furniture since.  In addition their needs in the living room, in particular, had changed so the floor plan needed to be revisited.

The end result entailed a few new additions like a sectional, a loveseat, a coffee table, an occasional chair and some pillows.   But for the most part we worked with what was there.   We reupholstered all of the existing furniture in a mix of Henry Road fabric, African cloth and indoor/outdoor fabric; changed up the floor plan in the living room to create a TV viewing corner and a conversation area that took advantage of the glorious views; and moved artwork so that their spectacular collection was better showcased.

The images below wind their way through the entrance hall, the living room, the bar area and the master bedroom.   I love that the end result looks like a natural evolution of a home filled with objects collected over a lifetime.   New and old, ethnic and modern blend together naturally creating a relaxed, welcoming and personal space.

 

Color in Sherman Oaks

The owners of this beautiful family home in Sherman Oaks had us reupholster some of their favorite pieces including a day bed and a wingback.   We also made a cushion for their new window seat in their remodeled kitchen and added loads of colorful pillows.   And Leo got an awesome Shibori indigo neck-kerchief made by their daughter to help him maintain his status as most handsome dog on the block!

Fab Sale

We are holding a sale of upcycled chairs and vintage things starting today on fab.com.   I am thrilled with how all the chairs are looking.   Sale starts at 7pm est.

Chair Fun

It's a chair party!   We are getting ready for another sale on Fab.com next month so I stopped by my upholsterer this morning to take pictures.  Beyond happy with how they all turned out. 

Woven Lampshades

There is a fabulous collaboration between Australian design house, Koskela and The Tjanpi Desert Weavers to create lampshades utilizing woven and wrapped grass.  The Whimsy shades that I make by wrapping and weaving fabric celebrating the wire form would look great hanging alongside them.  Top pic via Vogue Living (great video on that page too), bottom pics are my shades.

Big Sale on Fab.com

The popular sale site Fab.com is hosting a big Henry Road sale on Monday April 2 at 7pm (est).   I am excited to introduce Henry Road reworked furniture and loads of vintage finds to a whole new audience.  Even if I say so myself, some of the chairs we recently covered are just plain fabulous!

Inspiration: Woven Frames and Shapes

Love the architectural feel of lampshades and woven fabrics.   Stumbled across the stunning fashion show image from Brazil which reminded me of the Knoll Platner tables and chairs that have always been a huge favorite of mine, and one of my whimsy lampshades.  Enjoy!

African Wax Cloth Armchair

I just had this old armchair that my upholsterer found 'upcycled' in patchwork of African wax cloth cotton and am in love.   Restraining myself from keeping it rather than selling it as I love the mix of color and pattern contrasting with the chips and weathering on the white frame.

New Benches

I love how fabulous these refurbed benches look.  There are two of them and we covered them in a gorgeous old suzani.

Wax Cloth Shade

I love this African wax cloth shade that I just got in for a customer.  Such great colors.

New Chair

We just got this lovely new old chair back from the upholsterers.  I had fun mixing it up and love the odd arms!  I think this would make a perfect ready chair.

Happy Weekend

It's always great to see our things making their way to happy homes and settling in.   Eva sent me this picture of her Henry Road chair with the cutest, most adorable cherub on it.  A smiling face like this is guaranteed to make the weekend a happy one!   Thanks, Eva!

New Chair

This beautiful old chair is now in our shop.  It just got a new life covered in crimson and tangerine Poppy fabric.   I left the black wooden frame in its lovely battered and bruised state as I loved the contrast between the old patina and the bright, fresh fabric.

Yummy Bench

I picked this bench up from the upholsterer this morning and love how it turned out.  It will be perfect in a hallway, at the end of a big bed or as seating!
