The back door and side wall of the store were tagged this week with a quirky stencil of a cheeky face that made me smile. I have decided that they are good luck charms.

Happy Weekend
It's always great to see our things making their way to happy homes and settling in. Eva sent me this picture of her Henry Road chair with the cutest, most adorable cherub on it. A smiling face like this is guaranteed to make the weekend a happy one! Thanks, Eva!
Friday's Fabulous Man: Kenneth Grange
My sister recently visited an exhibit of the work of Kenneth Grange at the Design Museum in London. Viewed as Britain's leading product designer, at 82, Kenneth Grange's touches the lives of millions daily.
The Independent writes: "Edwin Heathcote wrote in the Financial Times that "Kenneth Grange is ubiquitous. The day before I went to talk to him I'd taken a trip on one of the trains he designed and had got into one of the London taxi cabs he designed. I shaved with one of his razors, opened a door using one of his handles and waited for a bus at one of his bus shelters. No other designer has had the same impact on the London environment.""
There is a great article in Blueprint Magazine that discusses his views on design and branding, on quality, and on repairs and changing the pattern of consumption.

Gail Rieke Studio
The studio of collage artist Gail Rieke is an art piece in of itself. I love the wall of suitcases. Via Cafe Cartolina
Tereza Vlckova
Fascinating use of photography in this work by Tereza Vlckova in her submission to the Hot Shot Photography Competition. Per the article: "In Vlčková's own words, it is a "depersonalization of photography," and she is "creating a world of its own aesthetics and visual rules," in effect "refusing photography's classic appearance, but at the same time still making use of this medium."" Just the simple use of a circle as the photo shape makes this work noteworthy.

New In the Shop
Some of the new stuff that came into the store this week. My personal favorite is the 1951 French Yellow Pages.

Wishing you a great weekend with some images from a photo shoot this week for the next issue of our magazine.
Friday's Fabulous Woman: Armi Ratia
Given my love for Marimekko and the influence that their signature big, bold pattern has had on my design style, it's surprising that its taken me this long to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of Armi Ratia who founded Marimekko 60 years ago.
With fabulous design and easy to wear fashion, Armi transformed a textile printing company into an internationally renowned design and fashion business. It didn't hurt that Jackie O wore a few Marimekko dresses on the campaign trail. For more on her life and work, this feature is worth a read as is this article on the Marimekko blog.
I am inspired by a quote attributed to Armi, a couple of years before Viljo and Armi Ratia's company Printex became Marimekko: "One has to dream. And one has to stand out from the rest".

New Henry Road Pouch Collection
I am working like crazy on new products so am very happy that our new Henry Road pouch collection is on our shelves. I tried a patent finish on them this time and am loving the gloss and shine. We also added the option of a few zip bags in natural cotton. More new items to come in the next couple of months.
