Henry Road Journal Issue One

Remember all the photo shoots I was doing a few weeks ago.  Well this is the end result:  a new Henry Road catalog which makes me very excited.  Called A Journey in Color, it's a quarterly journal, mini-magazine and catalog all in one about all things Henry Road.

It’s a story of the places, objects and people that inspire; the process of creating and designing; of stocking the shop with great decorating and gift items; and of friends, neighbors and customers who share their laughter and dreams.

The cover a few of the spreads are below.   The rest is here.  I hope you enjoy it and look forward to your feedback.  Happy reading!

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Louise Dahl

I believe that the camera is a medium of light, that one actually paints with light. - Louise Dahl 1984

What a lovely thought.

Louise Emma Augusta Dahl (1895-1989) was an American photographer who spent 20 years as a staff fashion photographer at Harper’s Bazaar.  She pioneered the use of natural lighting in fashion photography and shooting on location.  Her preference for a more modern relaxed feel and her innovative use of light are said to have influenced the likes of Horst, Richard Avedon, and Irving Penn.

New Stuff in the Shop

It's been a busy week unpacking boxes and schlepping things around but we're now set for Summer!  Memorial Day, we're ready for you! Now all I have to do is figure out who I should select to be this Friday's Fabulous...

Pom Pom Perfection

Whimsical, quirky perfection from the Pom Pom Factory.  via Oh Joy.

Macaroon Magic

I am being haunted by macaroons from La Duree in Paris.  Remember this post from last week?  Yesterday I was on the CNN's eatocracy and there they were again.  So I decided to use plate of yummy-ness as inspiration and seek out rooms that mirror the luscious blend of pink, chocolate, yellow and lavender.

Elliott Erwitt

The International Center of Photography in New York opens an exhibition of Elliott Erwitt’s “Personal Best" this month.   There is a great interview on Vanity Fair as well as some of the great man's amazing photographs including those below.

Magnolia Monday

Spotted the first magnolias of the season over the weekend.   I always forget how big they are.  Huge decadent white petals unfurled.

May your week unfurl big and beautiful.

Just Unpacked

I've had fun unpacking some new things this week.   Lovely bird sculptures by Mullaniam, a 1940s bicycle, an Adler match strike in the form of a pipe, and some great wooden stools/side tables that are my new 'garden stool' option.  The normal eclectic mix of things I like.

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Isabella Rossellini

I grew up gazing at pictures of the alluring beauty of Isabella Rossellini --- or should I say Isabella Fiorella Elettra Giovanna Rossellini (according to Wikipedia) I have name envy.

The daughter of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and Italian director, Roberto Rossellini,  she began modeling at the 'ancient' age of 28,  added acting and book writing to her repertoire along the way, and is now an animal conservationist, student and film maker.

Unforgettable in David Lynch's Blue Velvet, she was the face of Lancome for years and graced many a Vogue cover.  She is fabulously smart, fabulously talented and fabulously beautiful.

Paris in the Spring

...wouldn't that be nice.  Lovely post on Paris including one of my favorite places, La Duree on Luster.

Nava Lubelski

Beautiful sculpture made from tightly rolled paper.  Nava Lubelski uses tax returns, rejection letters, and other collected waste paper to create these lovely organic 'pictures'.    I love the three dimensional aspect. via colossal art.

I also love this thread on canvas work.   Maybe even more than the scrolled paper.  And I just noticed that she had a show in Santa Monica last month - I would have loved to have seen it.
