Sidetracked

I am in the midst of a major spring cleaning session in my studio but got sidetracked by this gorgeousness blooming in my garden. And it smells heavenly too!   Now back to work...

Wisteria

It seems to be a week for purple.  Wisteria is everywhere.  The house on Henry Road had a front veranda covered in wisteria every year so it brings back wonderful memories for me.  I took a lovely picture last week and then did some doodling over the weekend.

What's Playing on the Radio?

I think it could be this wonderful-sweet-cheesy Carpenters song from the Seventies.    A fun start to the week.

Weekend Reading: For The Gardners And Lovers of Flowers

There is a lovely BBC magazine article about our personal connection to gardens and plants.   A fitting way to welcome Spring!  I have so many memories and emotions connected to, and reflected in, specific flowers or plants.  Happy reading!

I took the picture of this lovely patched gate with the new ivy leaves popping green yesterday evening

Spring Clearance

Spring is in the air and it's time to clear the cobwebs and bash the dust out of the rugs.    I am probably not going to get to the cobwebs and rugs but I am having a huge clearance sale.   All tablecloths are now $44 and all table runners are $20.   A whole heap of pillows have also been moved to our clearance section.

Happy Weekend

Wishing you a happy Spring weekend!

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Sonia Delaunay

An artist, set decorator, furniture designer, and textile designer, Sonia Delaunay is known for her use of strong color and bold geometrics.  Born in the USSR, she moved to Paris in her twenties and over the years created an extensive body of work.   Her fashion designs from the 1920s, as well as textiles designed for the Metz department store in Amsterdam in the 1930s are the primary focus of a show at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York from March 18 to June 5.   How I would love to go to that!

Anglesey, Wales

Thought I would take a fantasy vacation today.   Last week the Today show did a feature on Anglesey in Wales as it's where Prince William is currently posted.  What a stunning part of the world with incredible rolling fields of heather, wild horses, majestic cliffs and miles of wide open beaches! Take a look at these lovely pictures from here and here.

And if you are looking for a place to stay Tyn Towyn cottage on Ty Glas Golau might work -- at least it would for me particularly as it is just down the road from the beach above and that bed looks like a great spot for reading a good book or sketching.

New Store Stuff

Here's few pics of some of the new things in the store.   I am loving the fun bike bells, the crazy beautiful illustrations in the 1930s Aladdin book, the funky, chunky industrial wrench 'sculpture' and who doesn't need a VIP chair.    I made the doorstops in some spare time (ha ha) last week and am pretty happy with the result particularly given that I just made up the pattern.

Fabulous Paper Art

I have soft spot for old books.  I love the smell, the color, the signs of use like a name penciled in or a page marked up.   The texture, shape and contrast in this art using old books by South African, Keri Muller is fabulous.  via visi mag and Keri's blog, simple intrigue.

Friday's Fabulous Woman: Corinne Day

The fabulous fashion photographer Corinne Day passed away last year.  This self taught British photographer leaves behind a legacy of strength and an incredible portfolio.  I love the depth and contrast in her images and the stories she told through her work.

The picture of Day with Kate Moss is from VogueUK.  All other images are from her site which is worth a visit for more info, her bio and a heap of stunning images.

Perfect Living

This living room rates high on the absolutely perfect scale for me!  A comfortable couch, great color and pattern, lots of art.  Nothing matches but everything works!  Via Pattern Observer, this is the home of Lindsey Buckingham, from Fleetwood Mac, and his wife photographed by Simon Upton for Elle Decor a few years ago.

Spring Scent

This time of year in Los Angeles is perfection!  Every evening the air is filled with the incredible perfume of jasmine and blossom.  On my way to my car this evening I took out my camera to record the jasmine tumbling over white picket fences everywhere, pretty pale blossoms, the remains of the citrus season still hanging heavy, and a kids swing waiting for Summer!
