Friday's Fabulous Woman: Nani Marquina

For 20 years, Barcelona-based Nani Marquina has been designing beautiful rugs.  She has a great eye for texture and color.  I particularly love the depth she creates with felt cutouts woven into carpets of fallen petals and leaves.  While modern in style, her work is timeless -- I think it would look magical with an old farmhouse table or an antique desk.

Three Days Left

It's been a crazy busy week thanks to everyone who has been shopping online and in our store.  Thank you all! I am particularly thrilled to be totally caught up on all the shipping this evening:) Three more days of sale left and then the fun really starts as we change things up and adds lots of new goodies to both the online and bricks n mortar stores.

Store Display

One of the things that I thoroughly enjoy about my job is store display and merchandising.  I still have a lot to learn and so pictures of stores are both an inspiration and an education for me.  The pictures below come from lanalou style, a wonderful Cape Town style blog by Lana that features lots of stores in the area.  Aside from making me yearn to visit, I love the creativity and beauty of the photos Lana takes.

Soap Sculpture

I am a long time admire of the beautiful soap sculpture in the Tropfnass Kollektion. Love the translucent color in the heads in the first pic below. This is definitely soap for display rather than use.

African Signs

I thought laughter would be a great way to start the week.  My mother forwarded an email with these great African signs yesterday.  Enjoy!

Pop Goes the Monkey

Our wonderful friends at Cake Monkey are holding a pop up store in their soon to be flagship shop in Silverlake this weekend.  We are participating along with a whole heap of talented people.  I have to work my store so will miss out on all the yummy fun which includes the Kogi Truck from 11-1 on Sat. If you are in LA this weekend, head on over to 2912 Rowena Ave, Silverlake, 90039.

On Daily Candy

Busy Week. . . And its only Thursday

Its been one of those weeks. . . started off by bidding Adieu to our gorgeous armchair and putting it on a truck bound for Colorado.

Next our banner went up on we love indie.  A while ago I decided it was time to do some advertising on blogs and because I have so many favorites, I opted to act like Switzerland and buy a banner on a portal that is pure inspiring eye candy featuring most of the blogs I love.  Creating the banner turned out to be more work than I thought as getting images to work in the long and skinny shape they needed took me a while.

And then yesterday I got back to my studio from a visit to the Pop Up store location -- see tomorrow's post:) -- to find that there were 20 new orders.  Much as I would love it if that was the norm, it ain't!  Turns out Real Simple featured the cool task clips we carry on their blog's daily find.  First thing this morning I was on the phone to our supplier to order 50 of them -- hopefully they will arrive by Monday latest so we can get them en route to all the lovely customers who jumped at the chance to organize their lives.  Thank you Real Simple!

Pink and Orange

A favorite combo of mine in this great pic from Purl!  Below other favorite shots from my album.  The last one is my screensaver - my sister took a picture of some beautiful dead flowers hanging out in my kitchen.

Annabel Grey

Came across the work of the super talented Annabel Grey recently.
A textile designer and artist, whose work is playful, colorful and
creative. She works on bespoke commissions and recently
launched a fabric line. Enjoy!

Romantically Challenged

Aren't we all?  Because of our location, a number of our customers are set decorators.  Spy our Leaves pillow peeking out from behind Alyssa Milano in this pic:) Look out for it and other things from the store including bird paintings by Matt Adrian of The Mincing Mockingbird on ABC's Romantically Challenged's premiere tonight.

William Yeoward

Across the road from Designers Guild on Kings Road in London is the stunning William Yeoward store.  They have sumptuous colorful textured fabrics and brilliant glass lamps. Their "room" displays are creative and whimsical --  I have yet to visit and not want to move right in.   Thought wallowing in beautiful high end luxury was a good way to start the week.

Travelling in Technicolor

I noticed a link to a report on Pakistan's Truck Art  on the BBC web this morning and fell in love with the color, design and sheer personal poetry and celebration in these adornments.  I have seen decorated trucks and buses on my travels but nothing in this league.   These images came from some fascinating articles on this art in thewondrous, pakistaniat and weburbanist.  Looks like one of their sources was this great flickr collection.
